Patna, Oct 12 (IANS) A severe road accident claimed the lives of a dumper driver and his helper early Monday morning on the Patna-Buxar National Highway (NH-922) in Bihar’s Buxar district.
The dumper truck rammed into the rear of a trailer parked along the roadside near Pratap Sagar village under the jurisdiction of Naya Bhojpur police station.
The impact was so severe that the dumper’s cabin was badly mangled, trapping both occupants inside. The victims, both residents of Uttar Pradesh, lost their lives at the scene.
The accident occurred near a government-installed tubewell close to Pratap Sagar village. Hearing the sound of the collision, local villagers rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the trapped occupants.
They also alerted the Naya Bhojpur police, who arrived shortly afterwards and began rescue operations.
As the front portion of the dumper was extensively damaged, extracting the two men proved difficult. The police eventually used a JCB machine to cut open the mangled cabin and retrieve them. However, both had already succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Ramanand Yadav, 25, son of Ramvilas Yadav, and Lalit Yadav, 22. Both were residents of the Maharajganj police station area in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Ramanand was driving the dumper, while Lalit was travelling with him as the helper.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accident may have occurred after the driver dozed off at the wheel.
However, the exact cause of the collision has not yet been established, and the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The station house officer (SHO) of Naya Bhojpur police station confirmed the deaths and said the families of the deceased were being informed.
Police are completing the necessary inquest formalities before sending the bodies for post-mortem examinations.
The post-mortem will be conducted after the arrival of the deceased’s family members.
Earlier, a passenger bus rammed a stationary truck in Bihar’s Supaul district, claiming one life and injuring more than six passengers on Monday morning.
