New Delhi: Indian Railways has approved a ₹142-crore project to upgrade the electric traction system on the 73-route-km Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway, aimed at boosting power supply capacity and operational efficiency.
The project will upgrade the existing traction system from 1×25 kV to 2×25 kV across the section. The work will cover 146 track kilometres, strengthening the electrical infrastructure to support growing rail traffic.
The Savalyapuram-Guntur section forms part of HUN Route 8, which runs through Vasco, Gadag, Guntakal, Nandyal, Savalyapuram, Guntur and Vijayawada.
The upgraded system is expected to improve the capacity and reliability of the electric traction network, allowing the railway to handle increasing traffic requirements more efficiently.
The project will also strengthen power supply infrastructure for electric train operations on the section and support smoother train movement along the key route.
The approval is part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to modernise traction infrastructure, increase network capacity and prepare key railway corridors to handle future growth in passenger and freight traffic.
