Greater Noida: At least nine people were killed after a sleeper bus caught fire while travelling on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Thursday.
The bus was reportedly carrying around 40 to 50 passengers when the fire broke out. The flames quickly spread through the moving vehicle, leaving passengers scrambling to escape.
Some passengers reportedly jumped from the bus in an attempt to save themselves. Several others were injured and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Fire department teams reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and brought the blaze under control. Police and other emergency personnel also reached the site and began rescue and relief operations.
Yogi Adityanath expresses condolences
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the incident.
The chief minister sought details from officials and directed the administration to ensure that the injured receive immediate and proper medical treatment.
Police and other concerned authorities have begun an investigation to establish the cause of the fire and determine the circumstances that led to the blaze.
