Rajasthan: Speeding car hits family on bike, father-daughter die while mother, son critical

Jaipur, Aug 10 (IANS) A speeding car hit a family travelling on a motorcycle in Jaipur’s Sanganer area late Sunday night, killing the father and daughter and leaving the mother and son seriously injured, said officials on Monday.

Both injured victims have been admitted to the trauma centre at SMS Hospital.

The accident took place at around 12:30 a.m. According to preliminary information, the car was travelling from the Kordia petrol pump towards the Sangasetu pump when it hit the family’s motorcycle near the stadium. The impact was so severe that the father and daughter died on the spot, while the mother and son sustained serious injuries.

After the collision, the car driver allegedly fled the scene towards Sanganer station. Police said the car also hit a scooter and another motorcycle while travelling between Sanganer police station and Sangasetu.

Following the incident, police chased the vehicle and intercepted it near Haldighati Gate on Tonk Road. The driver has been detained and is being questioned. Police are also gathering information about the riders of the other vehicles that were allegedly hit by the car. They are checking whether any of them sustained injuries and were admitted to private hospitals.

Police have started efforts to establish the identities of the deceased father and daughter.

Meanwhile, the seriously injured mother and son are undergoing treatment at the SMS Hospital trauma centre.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Mukesh Choudhary said the speeding car hit a family travelling on a motorcycle.

The father, who was riding the motorcycle, and his daughter died in the accident, while the mother and son suffered serious injuries. Police are also investigating reports of other vehicles being hit during the incident.

Recently, three women from the same family were killed, and 13 others injured after a Tempo Traveller carrying pilgrims collided head-on with a trailer truck near the Bobasar overpass in Rajasthan’s Churu district.

The accident occurred in the Sujangarh police station area when the Tempo Traveller, carrying 17 members of a family from Kolkata, was travelling from the Salasar Balaji temple to Pushkar. According to police, the trailer rammed into the Tempo Traveller near the Bobasar overpass, leaving the front portion of the vehicle completely crushed.
