When Tanuja revealed how she reacted on seeing herself on screen for the first time

Mumbai, Aug 22 (IANS) Veteran actress Tanuja once revealed how she reacted after seeing herself on screen for the first time. During her appearance on the popular chat show, ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’, Tanuja had revealed that after she first saw the rushes of her debut film she thought she sounded really bad.

She had even told her mother that she believed she sounded like a rat and hence did not wish to work in movies.

Sharing the experience, Tanuja had said, “I saw my first rushes and heard my voice on screen for the first time. And my God. It was like…really bad. So, I told my mom that I don’t want to work now because my voice sounds like a rat.”

However, her mother tried to calm her down and make her understand.

Tanuja asked her mom, “What will you give me if I decide to act in your film? “

When Tanuja’s mother asked what she wanted, the actress expressed her desire to drink lemonade.

Explaining the reason behind her demand, Tanuja had added, “Because at that time we were not allowed to drink all these bottles. So every time they wanted me to do something, it was one lemonade.”

Talking about her cinematic journey, Tanuja made her debut as a child artist in 1950 with the movie ‘Hamari Beti (1950)’.

She was seen as the younger version of Nutan in the film, which was produced by Tanuja’s mother.
