Turkey Berry Curry

Turkey Berry is one of the super healthy vegetables. Turkey berry is a local vegetable and widely grown in some areas. It is a famous vegetable in South India. In Kannada we call Usti kaayi or kudane, Tamil -Sundekaayi, Telugu – Uccha kayi. Turkey berry is small in size and green in color and a little bitter in taste. In summer it grows on the roadside. From Turkey Berry we can prepare lots of recipes. Today I am sharing one version of the simple curry.

First we need to fry the turkey berry in some oil before using. We need to crush them well once everything is fried and cool down. After that remove the seeds and outer cover as much as possible. Once everything is fried the turkey berry is cooked, we need not cook separately like other vegetables.

Saute the onion, garlic, tomatoes until it softens. Add the spices like coriander powder, turmeric powder, sabzi masala or if you want additional you can add any masala. I added sprouted moong which I had little stock in my fridge. For masala I added a little amount of grated coconut, red chili or green chili or pepper, then you can add two cashew nuts for thickness. You can vary the spicy and sweet taste as you want.

This curry is super easy and tasty too. Served with chapathi, roti or with hot rice. Turkey berries are rich in iron and have lots of medicinal value.
