Successful Rescue Mission: 180 Stranded Students Saved from Sri Lankan Mountain

Colombo: In a commendable operation, 180 students from Kelaniya University’s Faculty of Medicine in Ragama, Western Province, have been rescued from the Hanthana mountain in Sri Lanka. The rescue mission took place following the students’ hiking excursion on Saturday morning, during which they lost their way back due to adverse weather conditions, including fog and rain.

The spokesperson for the Kandy-headquartered police station provided details, emphasizing that Hanthana, situated in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, is a popular hiking destination for university students. The annual occurrence of students getting lost, often attributed to sudden weather changes in the area, underscores the challenges faced by hikers in this picturesque but unpredictable terrain.

The successful rescue highlights the coordinated efforts of the authorities to ensure the safety of the stranded students, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and caution when engaging in outdoor activities, especially in regions prone to rapid weather shifts.
