Schools, colleges join cervical cancer awareness drive led by Dr Padmini Prasad

Bengaluru: A statewide campaign aimed at spreading awareness about Cervical Cancer and promoting preventive healthcare for women is being spearheaded by noted gynaecologist Dr Padmini Prasad.

The initiative, themed “Don’t worry about cancer, awareness is important,” is being organised under the banner of the Bharavase Charitable Foundation in collaboration with Jeevika Healthcare. The programme focuses on awareness, screening and vaccination to prevent cervical cancer among women and adolescents.

Dr Prasad, who has been conducting programmes on women’s health for several decades, said the campaign aims to educate women about early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. As part of the initiative, free HPV vaccine is being administered to girls above the age of 12, along with health check-ups and blood tests for cancer screening.

Awareness programmes in schools

The campaign has received strong support from educational institutions in the city. On Saturday, as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, free HPV vaccination was provided to girls aged 12 to 14 years at Radhakrishna School Hebbal in collaboration with the Bharavase Charitable Foundation and Jeevika Healthcare.

A similar programme held on Sunday at Jain School of Science Bengaluru also saw participation from a large number of students and youth.

During the sessions, Dr Prasad interacted with students and explained how cervical cancer develops, methods of prevention and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Discussions were also held on women’s sexual health and reproductive issues to promote greater awareness among young people.

On the occasion, Dr Padmini Prasad was felicitated by the Jain School of Science in recognition of her contributions to women’s health and cancer awareness initiatives.
