Tehran: Iranian law enforcement authorities successfully seized more than 1.5 tons of illicit drugs during a recent operation. The police acted on intelligence and ambushed two armed narcotics trafficking gangs as they were transporting illegal substances from one province to various cities within Iran. The operation took place on provincial roads, and a total of eight sedans were utilized by the traffickers.
According to Doostali Jalilian, the provincial police chief, ten suspects were apprehended during the operation. However, efforts to capture the remaining individuals involved in the drug trafficking are still ongoing.
The seized contraband included approximately 1.3 tons of opium, 144 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 89 kilograms of heroin. Along with the illicit drugs, the authorities also confiscated the eight vehicles used for transportation. This significant operation demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to combatting drug-related crimes within the country.
