Rewa, Aug 24 (IANS) After heavy rain last week triggered a flood‑like situation in several parts of Rewa district, river levels have fallen rapidly and waterlogging in affected areas has started receding, prompting the administration to begin damage assessment and post‑flood restoration work.
Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi on Monday directed all Sub‑Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to deploy Patwaris and other field staff for a survey of losses and submit reports within three days. The survey will cover damage to houses, household goods and crops so that relief cases can be prepared and assistance distributed as per government norms.
The Collector also directed urban local bodies and Gram Panchayats to immediately start sanitation and cleaning operations in affected areas. The Public Works Department was asked to repair damaged roads, while the Electricity Board was directed to restore damaged power lines and transformers.
Fresh action came a day after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited Rewa to review the rainfall and flood situation in Rewa, Shahdol and Jabalpur divisions and assured compensation to people who suffered losses.
“The water levels in rivers across the district have fallen rapidly, and waterlogging has receded. Sanitation and cleaning work will start immediately in all affected areas. The Health Department has been directed to organise health camps and ensure adequate medicines for monsoon‑related illnesses,” Suryavanshi told IANS on Monday.
The Animal Husbandry Department was directed to dispose of livestock that died in the floods and arrange vaccination and treatment for sick animals. Similarly, the Public Health Engineering Department was asked to chlorinate drinking water sources and test wells and hand pumps in flood‑affected areas. The Agriculture Department was directed to assess crop damage and submit a report.
“The damage survey must be completed within three days so that relief can reach eligible affected people without delay. All departments should work on a priority basis to address post‑flood problems,” Suryavanshi said.
