Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala prepares for the crucial Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26, the state witnessed a flurry of political activity as 290 nominations were filed across its 20 parliamentary constituencies. With Thursday marking the final day for nominations, the electoral landscape now awaits the scrutiny process scheduled for Friday, with the deadline for withdrawal set for Monday.
Thiruvananthapuram emerges as the epicenter of electoral competition, boasting the highest number of nominations at 22. In contrast, the Alathur constituency in Palakkad district, reserved for SC, recorded the least number of nominations, standing at eight.
According to Kerala’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjay Kaul, the state’s electorate comprises 2,72,80,160 voters, with a notable gender balance of 1,40,95,250 women and 1,31,84,573 men. Moreover, there are 2,49,960 voters aged above 85 years, including 2,999 individuals aged 100 or above. The inclusion of 3,70,933 first-time voters and 88,384 NRI voters adds to the electoral diversity.
