JK Prepares for Heavy Rain & Snowfall

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for another round of heavy rain and snowfall, expected to commence Thursday night, as the weather office issues cautionary advisories to residents.

According to a statement from the Meteorological Office, a wet spell is set to envelop the union territory starting from the evening of February 29. The precipitation, including rain and snow, is anticipated to persist across widespread areas until March 3, with gradual improvement expected from March 4 onwards.

Residents residing in avalanche-prone areas are urged to avoid unnecessary outings for their safety.

As per recent temperature recordings, Srinagar experienced a minimum of 2.1°C, while Gulmarg and Pahalgam recorded minimum temperatures of minus 5.6°C and minus 4.4°C respectively. In Jammu city, the minimum temperature stood at 9.5°C, with Katra at 8.6°C, Batote at 4.3°C, Bhaderwah at 1.4°C, and Banihal at 5.4°C.

Leh town in the Ladakh region registered a minimum temperature of minus 8.1°C, while Kargil recorded minus 12.8°C, and Drass plummeted to a chilling minus 17.9°C. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions amidst the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
