Jammu Shivers in Unprecedented Cold While Kashmir Freezes Further

Srinagar: Jammu city is grappling with an unusual and biting cold, while Kashmir continues to be in the grip of a deep freeze, experiencing bone-chilling temperatures during the night on Tuesday.

Residents of Jammu are facing the brunt of exceptionally low night temperatures, leading to struggles in staying warm.

The 40-day-long period of intense winter cold, known as ‘Chillai Kalan,’ commenced on December 21. Since then, there has been no precipitation in the form of rain or snow in Jammu and Kashmir, posing potential challenges for the upcoming summer months. Chillai Kalan is scheduled to conclude on January 30.

On Tuesday, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.6, Gulmarg minus 3.1, and Pahalgam minus 5.4.

In the Ladakh region, Leh town registered a chilling minus 10.4, and Kargil plummeted to minus 12.3 as the lowest night temperatures.

Jammu city reported a minimum of 2.3, Katra 5.6, Batote 3, Bhaderwah 0.4, and Banihal minus 0.6.
