Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur proudly announced on Sunday that the state’s literacy rate has soared to over 88%, a substantial increase from a mere eight percent at the time of Independence. This accomplishment places Himachal Pradesh as the second-highest in literacy rates across the country.
Attributing this remarkable progress in education to the exceptional quality and standards of the state’s government schools, Minister Thakur highlighted the pivotal role played by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu and the state’s first Chief Minister Y.S. Parmar, who both received their education from government institutions within the state.
Speaking as the chief guest at the launch event of the ‘Mere Shehar Ke 100 Ratan’ scholarship program by Crack Academy, which aims to provide scholarships to 100 students per constituency across all 68 constituencies of the state, Minister Thakur emphasized the transformative impact of education.
The scholarship program, slated to commence with a test scheduled for May 1, seeks to empower deserving students and facilitate their access to quality education.
Minister Thakur underscored the significant achievements of government school alumni, noting their successful careers in top institutions and various fields. He highlighted that graduates from Himachal Pradesh’s government schools are making substantial contributions not only within the state but also across India and globally.
Furthermore, Minister Thakur highlighted the state’s impressive track record in producing Indian Administrative Officers (IAS) per capita, attributing this success to the robust education infrastructure. He pointed out that Himachal Pradesh boasts one of the highest per capita incomes in the country, a testament to the state’s commitment to education and human development.
