Jaipur, July 25 (IANS) A fresh spell of heavy monsoon rain continues to lash Rajasthan, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange and Yellow Alert for rainfall across the state on Saturday.
Heavy rain was recorded in several districts on Friday, including Sirohi, Jodhpur, Barmer, Pali, and Jalore, with Mount Abu receiving 195 mm (around 8 inches) of rainfall. In Jodhpur, torrential showers led to knee-deep waterlogging on several roads, disrupting normal life.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is expected to remain active across Rajasthan until July 27, after which rainfall activity is likely to weaken slightly from July 28.
Significant rainfall recorded on Friday included including Mount Abu (Sirohi): 195 mm, Bapini (Jodhpur): 81 mm, Karanpur (Sri Ganganagar): 66 mm, Jawai (Pali): 97 mm, Garhbor (Rajsamand): 47 mm, Kumbhalgarh: 28 mm, Desuri (Pali): 38 mm Pali city: 27 mm, Jawaja (Ajmer): 52 mm, Sarwar (Ajmer): 50 mm, Kalyanpur (Barmer): 57 mm and Balotra: 56 mm.
After a delayed onset and prolonged dry spell during the early phase of the monsoon, recent rainfall has significantly improved the water situation across the state.
Since July 2, water has flowed into more than 40 dams that had previously gone dry.
The Morel Dam in Dausa and Mansagar Dam in Tonk have now reached full capacity following the recent rains.
Jaipur Meteorological Centre Director Radheshyam Sharma said the monsoon will remain particularly active over parts of Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions for the next two days. He said heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in these regions, while moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of the Bikaner, Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions.
Meanwhile, despite the recent rainfall, the uneven distribution of monsoon showers continues to be a concern.
Only five districts, Beawar, Bikaner, Didwana-Kuchaman, Phalodi, and Salumbar, have received above-normal rainfall so far this season.
Meanwhile, 12 districts namely Dausa, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Pali, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, and Udaipur continue to face lesser rains, while 27 districts have recorded below-average rainfall due to the delayed arrival of the monsoon and a prolonged mid-season dry spell.
