Iran has announced a two-day holiday for both public and private institutions due to an unprecedented heatwave. The decision was made to protect citizens’ health as temperatures are expected to reach extreme levels.
Government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi tweeted about the cabinet’s agreement to a proposal from the Health Ministry for closures across the country on Wednesday and Thursday. During these two days, all state-run and private institutions will be closed. However, institutions providing essential services can obtain permits from relevant authorities to continue their operations.
The Health Minister, Bahram Einollahi, had earlier submitted the proposal to the cabinet, recommending the two-day closure for regions with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
Weather forecasts from the Iran Meteorological Organization indicate that temperatures in most provinces will rise close to or above 40 degrees Celsius during the specified period. Some cities, like Ahvaz, are likely to experience temperatures surpassing 50 degrees Celsius, making it crucial to take precautionary measures to safeguard the public’s well-being.
