Google has unveiled a €25 million ($26.98 million) funding initiative from Google.org aimed at enhancing artificial intelligence (AI) training and expertise across Europe, with a specific emphasis on supporting vulnerable and underserved communities.
Part of Google’s AI Opportunity Initiative for Europe, this funding is earmarked to equip workers with essential skills to navigate the evolving landscape, with an initial allocation of €10 million.
Adrian Brown, Executive Director of the Centre for Public Impact, which collaborates with Google on the initiative, emphasized the potential of AI to improve society while acknowledging the risk of widening inequalities. He stated, “This new program aims to empower individuals across Europe with AI knowledge, skills, and confidence, ensuring inclusivity.”
The initiative encompasses the launch of Google for Startups Growth Academies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, offering support to startups leveraging AI to address significant societal challenges in healthcare, education, and cybersecurity.
Applications for the Growth Academy: AI for Health are now open, with the program offering equity-free support to qualifying startups.
