Cairo, Sep 2 (IANS) As many as 16 people were killed and 28 others injured after a bus overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai on Wednesday, local media reported, citing Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population.
The accident happened before the Al-Saada area when the bus was heading towards Nuweiba, ‘Egypt Today’ reported citing details released by the ministry. A total of 20 ambulances were rushed to the site of the incident to evacuate the injured and give them the first aid.
Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar ordered the officials to ensure that the injured people receive the highest level of medical treatment. Meanwhile, Egypt’s Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy ordered officials to provide emergency relief assistance and take the steps necessary for supporting the people impacted by the accident.
In August, 18 people were killed and 30 others injured after two vehicles carrying workers collided in Egypt’s Ismailia Governorate, Egypt-based Ahram Online reported. The crash occurred on the Al-Dawawis link road near the Al-Shabab electricity station in Egypt. The injured people were taken to Qassasin Central Hospital for treatment.
Following the accident, security forces and ambulance crews rushed to the site of the incident, and authorities launched a probe into the circumstances that led to the crash.
Fatalities in road accidents in Egypt have increased by 10.8 per cent to 5,829 in 2025, while the number of people who have been injured in the accidents rose by 10.7 per cent to 84,553, according to the figures released by Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), Ahram Online reported.
In 2025, children under the age of 15 years recorded the highest number of fatalities in road accidents among all age groups, with 1,580 deaths and 29,101 injuries, according to figures released by CAPMAS.
