Bengaluru: Emphasising the importance of preventive healthcare, noted gynaecologist Dr Padmini Prasad said awareness and timely precautions are crucial in addressing diseases like Cervical Cancer, especially among women.
Speaking at a health awareness programme held at International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B), Dr Padmini Prasad interacted with students on issues related to physical, mental and sexual health as part of International Women’s Day initiatives.

Highlighting the growing health challenges, she said modern lifestyles are contributing to an increase in various diseases, making preventive care and informed choices essential for young people. “There is no need to fear cancer; awareness and caution are the real safeguards,” she noted.
During the session, students raised queries on topics including informed consent, sexual behaviour, risks associated with premarital relationships and awareness about sexually transmitted infections. Dr Padmini Prasad stressed the need for open discussions and accurate information to help young people make responsible decisions.
She pointed out that cervical cancer, which continues to affect a large number of women, can be effectively prevented through early detection and vaccination. The ongoing HPV vaccine campaign, she said, plays a crucial role in reducing future risk.
Dr Prasad also spoke about gender sensitivity, gender identity and the importance of respecting individual boundaries. The programme, part of a broader awareness drive across educational institutions, aimed to equip students with knowledge on health, safety and well-being.
