After Nitish shocker in Bihar, Cong prepares to play in UP

Lucknow: In the midst of the ongoing political upheaval in Bihar, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has made a significant move by offering 11 Lok Sabha seats to the Congress in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming polls.

Political analysts observe a shift in the role of Congress, suggesting that pressure from regional parties in West Bengal, Punjab, and Bihar has compelled Congress to take on the role of a “younger brother” in states.

The announcement from SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav about contesting the Lok Sabha elections in coalition with Congress coincides with the decision of INDIA bloc allies in West Bengal, Punjab, and Haryana to contest polls separately.

A senior Congress leader emphasized the party’s long-standing history and its right to make decisions within the INDIA bloc. However, concerns arise about contesting on only 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, prompting a call for a more substantial role resembling that of an elder brother due to the party’s national stature.
