Mysuru: The Cauvery Aarti programme proposed to be held at the historic Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam in Srirangapatna taluk has been postponed, with the revised schedule now set for October 18 to 23.
The event was earlier scheduled to begin on October 11, with Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expected to inaugurate the programme. However, the date was changed as the chief minister has prior engagements on the scheduled day.
Under the revised programme, the Cauvery Aarti will be conducted for six consecutive days at the KRS dam from October 18 to 23.

The initiative, modelled on the Ganga Aarti performed in north India, aims to offer prayers to the Cauvery, regarded as the lifeline of the region. The Cauvery Aarti was launched last year as an annual religious and cultural event.
Shivakumar, who had also held the water resources portfolio earlier, was instrumental in conceptualising the initiative.
This year, however, preparations are being made against the backdrop of inadequate monsoon rainfall and concerns over water availability in the KRS reservoir. Officials said the event would be organised taking into account the water available in the reservoir.
The district administration and the Cauvery Irrigation Corporation have begun preparations for the six-day programme, including arrangements for the religious rituals and cultural activities at the dam site.
