Bengaluru: Karnataka will launch a new e-KYC application to make the verification process easier for ration card beneficiaries and strengthen transparency in the public distribution system (PDS), food and civil supplies minister Rizwan Arshad said.
Arshad made the announcement after reviewing the progress of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology departments through a video conference with officials at Vidhana Soudha.
The meeting reviewed district-wise measures to prevent foodgrain leakage and illegal transportation, progress in GPS installation, beneficiary e-KYC and verification of applications seeking corrections or modifications to ration cards.
Officials also discussed regular inspections of fair price shops and measures to improve the efficiency of the distribution network.

Focus on curbing leakage
Arshad directed officials to strengthen monitoring at the district level and take prompt action against foodgrain leakage and illegal transportation. He also stressed effective implementation of welfare schemes and closer supervision of the PDS.
The minister said the new e-KYC app, scheduled to be launched across Karnataka on Thursday, would simplify the verification process for beneficiaries and help improve transparency in ration distribution.
The initiative is part of efforts to make beneficiary verification more accessible while strengthening monitoring of the state’s food distribution system.
