New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at Lok Niwas on the occasion of the nation’s 80th Independence Day, calling upon citizens to join efforts to build a ‘Viksit Delhi’ that becomes a national model of excellence, safety and civic pride.
As a ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute, the L-G addressed freedom fighters, resident welfare associations’ representatives, youth icons and students, identifying key priorities before the national capital such as cleaning of the Yamuna, tackling air pollution, ensuring housing for all, affordable healthcare, safety and security.
L-G Sandhu said that Delhi’s approach to public governance must be rooted in the Prime Minister’s resolve of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas’.
He also underlined the need for seamless coordination between the Union government, the Delhi government, municipal bodies, neighbouring states, and citizens, so that complex challenges can be converted into enduring opportunities, particularly of women and children, traffic management, and the rejuvenation of Delhi’s heritage.
He also invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Shakti Ki Saptadhara” enunciated at Red Fort on Saturday morning.
The L-G said the Prime Minister’s vision of seven key streams of strength span manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, technology and innovation, Gati Shakti, Raksha Shakti, the green and blue economy, and India’s soft power, which he said would together power the country’s growth story in the years ahead.
In a message on social media platform X, the L-G said, “Paid homage to our freedom fighters and remembered their supreme sacrifices, which continue to inspire generations. As we honour their legacy; we must renew our resolve, guided by the vision of PM @narendramodi Ji of Saptdhara and #SabkaSaath, #SabkaVikas, #SabkaVishwas and #SabkaPrayas.”
L-G Sandhu said, “Hoisted the Tricolour at @LokNiwasDelhi on the 80th Independence Day of India. Wonderful to see the enthusiasm of fellow Delhi residents to celebrate this special occasion in a spirit of togetherness, belonging and shared pride in Bharat.”
“Delhi needs to lead the nation’s journey towards an #AatmanirbharBharat and a #ViksitBharat@2047. Delhi has been an inseparable part of my life’s journey and I remain committed to its progress! To the youth — the real drivers of our future — I say: let us build a Delhi where every citizen feels safe, valued and empowered,” the L-G wrote on X.
Focusing on Delhi’s development, L-G Sandhu said that every district, street, and neighbourhood of Delhi tells its own story, and that the national capital holds immense potential, which is the collective responsibility of the administration to convert into convenience, dignity, and well-being for every citizen.
