New Delhi: In anticipation of farmers’ plans to converge towards the national capital for protests, the Haryana government has taken preemptive measures by sealing the state’s border with Punjab in Ambala and imposing restrictions on communication services, announced an official on Sunday.
To maintain law and order and prevent potential disruptions, mobile internet and bulk SMS services have been suspended in seven districts—Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa—until February 13, 11:59 p.m.
Commuters are advised against using the Delhi-Chandigarh highway, with a substantial concrete barrier erected at the Shambhu border in Ambala. Additionally, barricades have been installed to block the Punjab-Haryana borders in Jind and Fatehabad districts.
Haryana Police have issued a traffic advisory urging people to limit their travel on the state’s main roads to essential purposes on February 13, anticipating potential traffic disruptions on key routes from Haryana to Punjab.
More than 200 farmers’ unions are set to march to the national capital on February 13 to pressure the Centre into meeting their demands, which include the enactment of legislation guaranteeing a minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
