IMD Issues ‘Red Alert’: Intense Rainfall to Impact Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat on July 23

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a ‘red alert’ as heavy rainfall is expected to deluge Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat on July 23. The weather forecast agency has issued a bulletin predicting light to moderate widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers across various states in northwest India on specific dates.

On July 23 and 24, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience rainfall, followed by Punjab on July 25 and 26. The region comprising Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi can expect rainfall on July 22, 24, 25, and 26, while Uttar Pradesh may receive rainfall on July 24 and 25. West Rajasthan is set to witness rainfall on July 25, and East Rajasthan on July 23, 24, and 26.

Certain areas are at risk of isolated very heavy rainfall. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience heavy showers on July 25 and 26, while Punjab and West Rajasthan are likely to face heavy rainfall on Saturday, and East Rajasthan on July 25.

Central India is expected to receive light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers over the next five days. In west India, the IMD forecasts light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy showers.

The Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra will experience this rainfall from July 23 to 26, Saurashtra & Kutch on July 24, and Gujarat Region on July 23. Mumbai might also encounter continued isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days, according to the IMD.

In south India, regions can anticipate light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana can expect this until July 24, Coastal Karnataka and Rayalaseema from July 24 to 26, South Interior Karnataka on July 24 and 26, and North Interior Karnataka on July 23. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to experience this on July 23.

Turning to East India, the IMD forecasts light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers over Odisha until July 24, and isolated heavy rainfall over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on July 24. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is predicted over Odisha on July 25 and 26.

In Northeast India, the region will witness light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Saturday and July 26, over Assam and Meghalaya during July 22 to 24 and 26, and over Arunachal Pradesh during July 22 to 24, according to the IMD’s forecasts.
