Israeli Strike Targets Iranian Paramilitary Site in Syria; Deadly Drone Attack in Lebanon

Damascus: Reports from Syrian and Iranian state media confirmed that an Israeli strike on the Syrian capital on Saturday resulted in the destruction of a building used by the Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard. The attack in the Mazzeh neighborhood of western Damascus claimed the lives of at least five Iranians, according to various sources.

The Syrian army stated that the building was entirely demolished, with Israel allegedly launching the missiles from over Syria’s Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The Israeli military has not provided any official comments on the incident.

Shortly afterward, an Israeli drone strike targeted a car near the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre, leading to the deaths of two individuals in the vehicle and two others in a nearby orchard, as reported by a Hezbollah official and Lebanon’s state news agency. Among those killed was Ali Hudruj, a local Hezbollah commander.

Nour News, believed to be associated with Iran’s intelligence apparatus, identified two of the deceased in Damascus as Gen. Sadegh Omidzadeh, the intelligence deputy of the Revolutionary Guard’s Quds Force in Syria, and his deputy, known as Hajj Gholam. The Revolutionary Guard later released statements identifying the five casualties as Hojjatollah Omidvar, Ali Aghazadeh, Hossein Mohammadi, Saeed Karimi, and Mohammad Amin Samadi. The ranks of the individuals were not specified.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, reported that at least six people, including five Iranians and one Syrian, lost their lives in the missile attack. The strike occurred during a meeting of officials from Iran-backed groups, and the Observatory’s chief noted that three of the Iranians were commanders, with four individuals still missing under the rubble.
