Elizabeth Banks says ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ changed her life

Mumbai, June 27 (IANS) Hollywood star Elizabeth Banks celebrated 25 years of Wet Hot American Summer, recalling how the cult comedy changed her life.

The actress on Instagram also invited her fans for the anniversary reunion in Los Angeles ahead of the film’s theatrical re-release.

Banks wrote in the caption: “Twenty-five years ago, Wet Hot American Summer changed my life. Join me August 8 at the @theautryMuseum in Los Angeles for the official anniversary reunion event, hosted by @stfoodcinema with @radiantjpros and @focusfeatures. Then see it back in theaters August 14!”

Wet Hot American Summer is a 2001 American satirical comedy film directed by David Wain.

The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Showalter, Marguerite Moreau, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, Zak Orth, A. D. Miles, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Marisa Ryan, Kevin Sussman, Joe Lo Truglio, and Elizabeth Banks.

It takes place during the last full day at a fictional summer camp in 1981, and spoofs the sex comedies aimed at teen audiences of that era.

Even though the film was a failure at the box-office, it developed a cult following. Streaming giant Netflix revived the franchise with the release of Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, an eight-episode prequel series starring most of the film’s original cast.

Banks made her film debut in the low-budget independent film Surrender Dorothy in 1998.

She was then seen in films such as Spider-Man trilogy, Seabiscuit, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Slither, Invincible, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Role Models, The Next Three Days, Man on a Ledge, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Movie 43, The Lego Movie film series, Love & Mercy, Walk of Shame, Magic Mike XXL, Power Rangers, Brightburn, Call Jane, Migration, and Skincare.
