Tokyo: The toll from the devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake that rocked Japan’s Ishikawa prefecture on January 1 has risen to 220, with 20 people still unaccounted for, according to authorities on Sunday.
As the nation grapples with the aftermath, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warns of adverse weather conditions in the northern and eastern regions. Strong winds, snow, and high waves are anticipated from Sunday evening through Tuesday, intensifying the winter pressure pattern.
Quoting the JMA, news agency reports winds of up to 72 kilometers per hour in the quake-affected Hokuriku region and Niigata Prefecture, with gusts exceeding 108 kilometers per hour on Sunday.
