New Delhi: The Delhi Meitei Coordination Committee (DMCC) has announced its plans to hold a sit-in demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 6, seeking action against Kuki rebels in Manipur, India. The DMCC Convener, Seram Rojesh, and Spokesman, Khuraijam Athouba, emphasized that the threat to Manipur’s integrity is not only a concern for the state but also against the national interest and unity of India, which prides itself on its diversity.
They urged India to stand firmly against all forms of terrorism, including religious and narco-terrorism, and stressed that Manipur hills should not be allowed to become another Golden Triangle, known for its involvement in the drug trade. The DMCC leaders strongly opposed any division of Manipur based on ethnic lines.
The demand for separate administration (equivalent to a separate state) for the tribals by various Kuki tribal organizations and ten Manipur tribal MLAs, including seven from the BJP, has been a contentious issue. The COCOMI leaders accused Kuki militants, operating under a Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the government, of supporting the drugs trade and poppy cultivation.
They called for the annulment of the SoO agreement and the replacement of Assam Rifles from the Indo-Myanmar Border Management with a more disciplined force, as they believed the current security forces have failed to protect Manipur from cross-border narco-terrorist aggression. The COCOMI further stated that Meitei farmers have faced attacks from Kuki militants, highlighting the urgency of addressing the situation.
The COCOMI appealed to all residents, students, professionals, and others present in Delhi to participate in the sit-in demonstration on August 6. They believe that this event will send a strong message to the Central government and parliamentarians, urging them to resolve the crisis based on truth rather than vested politics.
Additionally, the gathering aims to expose lies, misinformation, and concocted stories that may be circulating nationally and internationally, bringing attention to the actual situation on the ground in Manipur.
