4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Andaman Islands

New Delhi: In the early hours of Wednesday, the Andaman Islands region experienced a medium-intensity earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the quake, with a depth of 35 km, occurred at 4:31 a.m. local time.

The NCS shared details of the earthquake on social media, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.8, Occurred on 17-04-2024, 04:31:30 IST, Lat: 12.04 & Long: 92.60, Depth: 35 Km, Location: Andaman Islands.”

Prior to this event, at 12:18 a.m., a 2.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the capital city of Uttarakhand, Dehradun. Though relatively minor, these seismic activities serve as reminders of the dynamic geological processes at play in these regions, prompting vigilance and preparedness among residents and authorities alike.
